Durban-based filmmaker Michael Cross has spent more than 20 years producing documentaries that illuminate artists and individuals. Along with a number of short-form documentaries for television, his films “Bafo Bafo – What Kind?!” premiered at the Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) in 2005 and “Rockstardom – The Journey Of A Small-Town Songwriter” at the 2012 Encounters South African International Documentary Film Festival. His most recent documentary, “Jiving and Dying – The Radio Rats Story” premiered at DIFF in 2016 before nationwide screenings and it’s acquisition by MNet in 2017.

This is a rollicking musical ride through all these incarnations, with frank insights from 80’s and 90’s musicians and leftie luminaries – from Johannes Kerkorrel to Lloyd Ross, Pieter-Dirk Uys to Zapiro by way of the Radio Rats’ Jonathan Handley and Vusi Mahlasela.
